Rolling Admissions

What are rolling admissions?

Rolling admissions is an application process in which a college or university accepts and reviews applications regularly throughout the year.

How do rolling admissions work?

Rolling admissions provides a flexible timeline for applicants.

Whereas most admissions processes require you to submit your application by a given date, rolling admissions allows you to send your application any time throughout the year. Your application will be processed and reviewed as soon as possible, meaning you won’t have to wait as long to find out if you’ve been accepted.

91³Ô¹ÏÍø accepts applications on a rolling basis and offers early action opportunities for students who want priority consideration. Explore our undergraduate admissions resources for more information about application processes and deadlines.

How soon will I get a decision?

In a rolling admissions process, your application is reviewed once you’ve completed and submitted it. The exact timeline for receiving a response can vary by college and program, so it’s helpful to check in with the school’s admissions office for specifics.

Rolling admissions vs. regular decision

The biggest difference between rolling admissions and regular decision is how and when schools review your application.

In a regular decision admissions process, you submit your application by a set deadline. After the deadline passes, schools review your application and communicate decisions on a set timeline, with most schools issuing admissions decisions in the spring.

With rolling admissions, your application is reviewed after it's received. The sooner you apply, the sooner you will find out if you’ve been accepted.

Please note: While rolling admissions allow you to apply at any time, schools typically have a deadline for the upcoming semester.

For most UB programs, a completed application and all supporting materials must be received by:

  • August 1 for programs beginning in the fall
  • December 15 for programs beginning in the spring

However, UB does accept and review applications continuously throughout the year until programs fill up.

What are priority deadlines?

A priority deadline is an earlier application date. Applying early can potentially give you more opportunities for scholarships, financial aid, room and board, and more.

While UB uses a rolling admissions process, we also offer Early Action I and Early Action II deadlines. Applications received after the Early Action II deadline will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Benefits of applying early

Applying early has several benefits, such as:

  • Earlier admissions decisions: You can find out if you’ve been accepted sooner, so you won’t necessarily have to wait until the spring to receive an answer.
  • Increased flexibility: Rolling admissions lets you apply when your application is ready, rather than waiting for one specific deadline.
  • Less application stress: Applying early helps you avoid rushing to meet later deadlines.
  • More time to plan: The sooner you know which schools have accepted you, the more time you’ll have to consider your options and compare financial aid offers.
  • Priority consideration: Some colleges offer students who apply sooner priority consideration for scholarships, financial aid, room and board, and more.

At UB, applying early can expand your scholarship opportunities. UB automatically considers incoming domestic undergraduate students for merit scholarships when they apply. After enrolling, creating your UB email, and registering for classes, you’ll have additional access to scholarship opportunities through ScholarshipUniverse.
